$15 Million RONA Store Opens in Collingwood

New-concept RONA store in Ontario creates 40 local jobs

COLLINGWOOD, ONTARIO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 09/26/07 -- RONA Inc. (TSX: RON), the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, renovation and gardening products, opened its new RONA store in Collingwood today. Existing Collingwood RONA Cashway operations are being transferred to the new RONA store located at 104 High Street. This new outlet represents a $15 million investment and created 40 local jobs in addition to the 15 existing positions from Cashway. The RONA Collingwood store - along with the recently opened Leamington store - offers the latest concept in RONA proximity stores specializing in home construction and renovation. More stores based on the same concept are underway in Ontario, including the Carleton Place store to be opened next spring.

The RONA Collingwood store features a retail sales area of 52,000 square feet and approximately 22,000 products dedicated to both the professional contractor and the 'Do-it-Yourself' renovator. The store will also have an impressive 89,000 square foot outdoor lumberyard, a 12,000 square foot garden centre and a 8,000 square foot covered shed.

"RONA is dedicated to pursuing its growth in the Ontario market. The opening of our latest store in the province will translate into healthy economic benefits for Collingwood and other communities in the area," says Robert Dutton, President and CEO of RONA.

"We are extremely proud of the new RONA Collingwood store. It is a consumer-friendly environment that offers an extensive variety of products, services and attractions under one-roof, usually only found in large cities and big-box stores. We're happy to be offering this opportunity to residents from the area, who will continue to receive the superior customer service they were accustomed to when previously shopping at RONA Cashway," says Claude Bernier, Executive Vice President, Proximity and Specialized Stores for RONA.

The RONA Store combines the best of building materials with finishing products such as paint, lighting, kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, doors and windows - and much more. Other specialty services include kitchen and bath design, flooring, computer paint chip matching, door and window takeoffs, as well as lumber cutting and delivery.

"We are eager and excited to introduce the new RONA store to customers and contractors by acquainting them with product and service areas specific to their home improvement and construction needs," says Steve Martin, store manager of the Collingwood RONA. "Our team of 55 employees, 15 from our previous Collingwood RONA Cashway store and 40 new employees is hardworking, friendly and knowledgeable. We look forward to continuing to provide the excellent service we have become known for, in addition to increasing the product selection, personalizing the shopping experience by helping customers one-on-one and providing "how-to" information to make the home renovation process easy and efficient."

Mr. Dutton was joined at today's grand opening by Mayor of Collingwood, Chris Carrier, MPP Jim Wilson (Simcoe-Grey), President of the Chamber of Commerce, Dr. David Ripley, members of the RONA senior management team, new store employees and many customers. In recognition of RONA's partnership of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Canadian Olympic Gold and Bronze Medalist in kayak racing, Adam van Koeverden was also on hand for the celebration.

RONA's Olympic sponsorship represents a $68 million investment including athletes support initiatives such as the RONA "Growing With Our Athletes" program to ensure the success of Canadian athletes in 2010.

During the opening ceremony, the RONA Foundation presented a $2,500 donation to the North Simcoe County Children's Aid Society Tutoring Program. The program addresses individual learning needs of children who take part in the initiative, in a safe and non-judgmental environment. This gesture marks the arrival of the new store in the Collingwood area and the RONA Foundation's efforts to help build better communities.

RONA Foundation's mission is to give assistance to young people between the ages of 12 to 30 by working to lower school dropout and illiteracy rates, and by helping to provide them with the training they need to take up a trade or other occupation.
