Intrinsyc Outlines Technology Direction of Mobile Phone Market at the Mobile Applications Platform & OS Conference

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA and LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 09/05/06 -- In his keynote presentation today at the MAPOS conference in London, UK, Intrinsyc Software International, Inc. (TSX: ICS) CTO Randy Kath said the telecommunications industry is demanding software creation and development that can provide mobile phone manufacturers with more cost-effective and feature-laden handset design options. Addressing today's challenges, including high cost hardware reference platforms, digital convergence, and increasing demands for media content on handsets, Kath reinforced that these "technology disrupters" create both challenges and opportunities for industry players.

Currently, mobile handset manufacturers spend millions of dollars on research and development for even a single handset platform. According to Kath, to be successful handset manufacturers, designers and network operators require ultimate flexibility in the design of accessible and unique user interfaces and service offerings. Advanced development tools that provide rich customization and integration capabilities are also necessary to reduce development time and cost. Kath surmised this is best achieved through the modular development approach delivered by high-level operating systems.

Earlier this year Intrinsyc launched Soleus(TM), the world's first Microsoft® Windows(TM) CE-based software platform for the mid-range mobile handset market. Drawing upon the company's years of experience as a successful embedded Windows developer, Soleus offers a new approach to developing phones, providing a set of modular software components that can be deployed across multiple handset designs, allowing manufacturers to bring different designs to market quickly without compromise. Kath noted that market adoption of new high-level operating systems, including Soleus, will be achieved by partnering with leading silicon vendors, mobile application software companies, and network operators.

"High-level operating systems allow handset manufacturers to reduce development costs and provide them with better product line scalability than legacy RTOS mobile phone software," said Kath. "The Soleus development platform by Intrinsyc is an innovative high-level operating system that provides mobile phone manufacturers with a more flexible alternative to other operating systems, allowing them to more easily provide the customization and branding functionality required by operators."

Kath continued, "Intrinsyc is currently working with several manufacturers and designers to bring Soleus-based handsets to market. Our development efforts remain on schedule for Soleus. As anticipated the certification process for the product will be completed later this fall, readying it for manufacturing release as our customers' schedules dictate. We anticipate Soleus-based handsets to ship in calendar 2007 rather than our original goal of late 2006; however our customer engagements reflect the growing interest of handset manufacturers as they move to high-level operating systems. We continue to focus on enabling faster adoption of Soleus by working with strategic silicon vendors, network operators and software partners."

The MAPOS conference takes place in London, UK, from September 5 - 7, 2006. As the innovative device software strategy event for the mobile industry, the MAPOS conference serves as the yearly meeting point for the industry's top players, innovators and decision makers.
